Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Open Bookmarks in a New Tab extension and its companion website.
Your bookmarks stay private
The extension does not ask for or automatically collect your name, email address, account credentials, payment details, or other directly identifying information. Your bookmark library is not uploaded to us or Google Analytics: bookmark titles, folders, and individual URLs are processed locally on your device.
There is one functional exception. For URLs that Chrome prevents the extension from handling directly, the URL of the bookmark you click is sent over HTTPS to our companion website as part of a temporary redirect. It is not added to our analytics or stored in an application database. The website host may process the request in its standard server logs.
Data we process
On your device: the extension reads and updates bookmark URLs so they open in a new tab. Settings and operational state are kept in Chrome storage. Recent bookmark-open events, including their URLs, are stored locally, periodically deleted once older than 25 hours, and used only to produce a count; the URLs are never included in analytics.
Usage and reliability analytics: the extension sends Google Analytics aggregate counts (total bookmarks, bookmarks requiring the companion redirect, bookmarks opened in the previous 24 hours, and restricted hostnames), extension and browser information, options and welcome page views, and short technical error messages. Events use a random installation ID and temporary session ID rather than your identity; we do not use these identifiers to identify you. Google may process standard network metadata such as your IP address. We use this data only to understand adoption, improve the feature, and diagnose reliability.
Public pages on the companion website also use Google Analytics, which may process a cookie or client ID, page and session activity, approximate location, and browser/device information. The redirect page itself does not load Google Analytics.
Information you provide: if you email us or use the linked feedback form, we receive the message and contact details you choose to provide and use them only to respond and improve the extension.
Sharing and use
Analytics is processed by Google Analytics; Google also processes responses submitted through the optional feedback form. Website requests are processed by Cloudflare, our hosting provider. We do not sell data, use it for advertising or profiling, or share it with data brokers.
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Retention, security, and your choices
Local session data expires after 30 minutes of inactivity; bookmark-open events are removed during periodic cleanup once older than 25 hours. Other extension data remains until you clear it or uninstall the extension. Google and Cloudflare retain data under their policies and our service settings. Data sent by the extension is encrypted in transit with HTTPS.
You can stop extension analytics by uninstalling the extension and can clear website cookies in your browser. For privacy questions or requests, use our support form. We may update this policy when our practices change and will revise the effective date above.
